10 Best Top Local SEO Companies for 2026: Compared

Type “plumber near me” into your phone and look at the top of the results. Three businesses in a little map box, each with photos, star ratings, opening hours and a call button. Most people never scroll past them. Why would they? If you run a local business, getting into that box can be worth more than everything else on the page put together, and every one of those three spots is fed largely by a Google Business Profile.
That box is what local SEO companies get paid to chase. Mostly.
Trouble is, the label covers very different outfits. Some are small specialist teams who do nothing but Google Business Profile work and map rankings. Some are big full-service agencies with a local department bolted on. A few are software firms that also sell done-for-you services. Squashing them into one neat “top 10” doesn’t help you much. So I haven’t. Below are ten real local SEO companies, split into three groups, with a factual note on each based on what their own websites say. No star ratings, no made-up scores, no invented prices. And the order within each group isn’t a ranking.
Pick local SEO companies on fit. Not on who shouts loudest.

ToggleHow I picked them (and what I didn’t do)
Every one of the local SEO companies here had to pass four tests. It’s a real, active business with an official website that describes its local SEO services clearly. It offers local search work specifically, not general SEO with “local” tacked on in the footer. It has a public track record, whether that’s published research, tools, conference talks or a long client list. And it fits a recognisable kind of buyer, from a single-site dentist up to a retailer with hundreds of branches.
What I didn’t do is test their services, collect client reviews or score them. We haven’t worked with any of these local SEO companies. None. So treat this as a shortlist to research, not a verdict.
What are you actually paying for?
Google says local results come down to relevance, distance and prominence. You can’t move your shop closer to every customer (shame). You can work on the other two, though, and that’s the job any local SEO agency is really selling you, however fancy the proposal looks. A complete, accurate Google Business Profile. The same name, address and phone number everywhere you’re listed (the trade calls these citations). Genuine reviews. Useful location pages. Local links.
Then there’s the messy stuff. Duplicate listings. A suspended Google Business Profile the week before Christmas. A rival who’s renamed themselves “Best Cheap Emergency Plumber Leeds” and is somehow ranking for it. Tracking map-pack calls separately from organic ones. A good local SEO agency spends a surprising amount of its month on this sort of faff, and honestly, if you asked me where the value hides in most of the local SEO companies worth hiring, it’s here rather than in the shiny monthly ranking chart that everybody screenshots for the boss.
Less glamour, more consistency.
The specialist local SEO companies
These are smaller local SEO companies that live and breathe local search. Map rankings your main worry? Start here.
Sterling Sky was founded by Joy Hawkins, who has worked in local SEO since 2006 and is a Google Product Expert. The local SEO agency has offices in Uxbridge, Ontario and Claymont, Delaware. It offers local SEO strategy, Google Business Profile management, local audits, Google Local Services Ads management and PPC, and it works across legal, dental, home care and automotive among other sectors. It’s known for testing things before recommending them and publishes a lot of that research, which I like. You can read their thinking first. For free.
Local SEO Guide is led by Andrew Shotland and based in Pleasanton, California. Don’t let the name fool you. This local SEO agency does broader consulting too, including technical SEO, content strategy, link building and business intelligence. Its sweet spot is multi-location brands and franchises, though it also takes on smaller businesses, SaaS and ecommerce. Running dozens of branches and need someone who gets both the technical side and local at scale? Worth a call. Probably.
Whitespark started in Edmonton, Canada in 2005 and sits half in software, half in services. The software side has a Local Rank Tracker, Local Ranking Grids, a Local Citation Finder and Reputation Builder for reviews. The services side covers SEO, citation building and cleanup, multi-location SEO, and help getting a suspended Google Business Profile reinstated (a very specific pain that a general local SEO agency often can’t fix). Whitespark also runs the annual Local Search Ranking Factors survey. Loads of other local SEO companies quote it.
Full-service agencies with a local team
Bigger shops. They do a bit of everything, from SEO and ads to web design and content. Handy if you’d rather have one supplier for all your marketing than a separate local SEO agency sitting next to your ads people, although (and this is the catch with big local SEO companies) a small account can end up handled by whoever’s newest.
Victorious is one of the bigger local SEO companies in this group, an SEO-focused agency that’s been running since 2013 and has offices in a string of US cities including San Francisco, Austin and New York, so UK firms should ask early how they handle the time difference. Its local work covers Google Business Profile optimisation (the bread and butter), on-page and technical SEO, keyword research, content, local link building, citation building and multi-location strategy. It also sells answer engine optimisation, for showing up in AI search tools. Very 2026.
WebFX is a large digital marketing agency based in Pennsylvania. Its local packages include strategy, keyword research, content, link building, citation management, review management and reporting, all run through two in-house platforms. RevenueCloudFX tracks marketing performance and LocalFX handles citations and reviews. It works with everyone from small firms to enterprise clients. Tiered plans, naturally.
Thrive Internet Marketing Agency was founded in 2005 and is headquartered in Arlington, Texas. It has a dedicated division, Thrive Local, covering local SEO, review generation and monitoring, listings management, reputation management and paid ads. Clients range from startups to multi-location businesses, in the US, Canada and the UK among other places, which matters if you’re reading this in Manchester rather than Michigan.
Scorpion goes deep on a few industries rather than wide. Home services (plumbing, HVAC, roofing and so on), legal, medical, franchises and healthcare systems. It sells websites, SEO, paid ads, Local Services Ads management and AI chat and scheduling tools. So if you run a trade business or a law firm and want one company handling site, ads and local search together, it’s one of the local SEO companies built for exactly that.
Platforms that also do it for you
Software businesses first. Agencies second, if at all. These local SEO companies suit you if you’d rather run local search in-house with decent tools, or if you’re a big brand that needs every listing controlled from one place.
BrightLocal is a UK-based platform used by agencies and businesses alike. It covers local rank tracking, listings management (your Google Business Profile included) and review management, and it’s added AI visibility tracking. It also sells done-for-you services, including citation building and fully managed local SEO. Plenty of smaller local SEO companies use BrightLocal’s tools behind the scenes. That tells you something.
Yext is aimed squarely at multi-location brands like healthcare systems, retail chains, franchises and hospitality groups. Its core is listings management, keeping your details accurate across Google Business Profile, other search engines, maps, apps and AI tools from one central source, plus competitive insights by location. Not a local SEO agency in the classic sense. Still a common pick when there’s a Google Business Profile for every branch to keep in line.
Uberall is another multi-location platform. Listings across 150+ directories, review management, local pages, store locators and local social posting, plus a newer product aimed at visibility in generative AI search. Like the other platform-style local SEO companies here, it mostly serves brands in retail, hospitality, automotive, finance and healthcare.
So which kind do you need?
Picture three hypothetical businesses shopping around for local SEO companies. A single-site physio clinic in Leeds. A regional HVAC firm with six vans and two depots. A national gym chain with 120 sites. Same search, wildly different needs.
The physio clinic almost certainly doesn’t need a big full-service local SEO agency. A specialist local SEO agency, or a freelancer with a BrightLocal login, could sort the Google Business Profile, a handful of citations and a review routine for a modest monthly fee. The HVAC firm might want one local SEO agency covering local search and Google Local Services Ads together, and our guides on SEO for HVAC companies and Google Local Services Ads go into that properly. The gym chain? Different beast. With 120 versions of its Google Business Profile to keep straight, it needs a platform like Yext or Uberall for listings, plus a local SEO agency for strategy and location pages.
Healthcare has its own quirks around reviews and patient privacy, and a local SEO agency that doesn’t know the sector can trip over them. Our piece on SEO for dentists gives you a feel for what decent local work looks like there.
What to ask, and when to walk
Before you sign with any of these local SEO companies, ask four things. How will you track calls and bookings from the map pack? Who owns the Google Business Profile if we part ways? You do. Always. How do you get reviews? Buying them, or offering rewards for five stars, breaks Google’s rules, so the answer matters. And what happens in the first 30 days? The better local SEO companies answer that last one plainly, because they’ve actually got a plan.
Check the contract length too. Seriously. Local results can move fairly quickly once the basics are fixed, but a sensible local SEO agency will still want a few months to show steady progress. Fine. A twelve-month lock-in with no exit clause isn’t fine.
Red flags? Plenty. Guaranteed number one in the map pack is the classic, because nobody controls that, not even the local SEO companies with the slickest sales teams. “Hundreds of citations” for a tiny one-off fee is another. So is fake reviews dressed up as “review management”. And if a local SEO agency suggests stuffing keywords into your business name, run, because that’s a quick way to get your Google Business Profile suspended.
My honest take? Most single-site businesses are better off with a small specialist local SEO agency, or even a decent tool and an hour a week, than with a big agency where they’re client number 400. The big platforms only start earning their keep once you’ve got enough locations that keeping every Google Business Profile straight by hand becomes a nightmare.
Shortlist two or three local SEO companies from the right group, ask the awkward questions, and compare the plans side by side. Your mileage will vary. Still, that alone sorts most of the cowboys from the rest.
